Right.
So I heard some rather distressing news about a friend of mine last
night. Distressing enough, so it seemed, that when I got home and got into
bed and looked at the tomes on my bedside table, I just wasn't able to
face them. If I was ever going to sleep, I needed some light,
easily-digestible fiction instead.
As my girlfriend has all my Harry Potter books (and is finding them
tearfully boring so far, as many of you may be pleased to hear) I picked
up good old CITR and let my eyes skim the pages as my brain slowly started
cooling down.
After a while, though, I noticed that some random act of violence had been
perpetrated against my innocent little paperback. Someone had attached a
Post-it note to the front page. On it, in rather untidy writing, are the
words "Anne Carson - The Beauty of the Husband".
I've just looked it up. It's apparently a book of poetry tackling Keats
and describing a doomed marital relationship. But what I really want to
know is who the hell decided to deface my copy of the good old Catcher in
such a manner, and what business does this Anne Carson person have in
there?
Is there a link? Or was it just a random act of blasphemy?
